Here are a few ways you can help improving this site
Submitting Information For Monster Guides
One of the most viewed areas of the site are the monster guides, so getting more guides added is a big priority to help improve this site.
You are welcome to submit any information you think is relavent via the appropriate section of the forums, each page has a set requirement of information/images that every guide will include, any extra information that is seen as important will be placed in the killing guides/notes section.
Please only submit information you have collected yourself, DO NOT copy anything from another website, submissions will only be accepted if they are your own work.
Here is a list of what each page requires:
- Monster Image - A decent sized image of the monster, not too big, not too small (exceptions for really big and small monsters where it's unavoidable).
- Monster Profile:
- Combat level
- Combat style(s) monster uses
- Hitpoints
- Combat XP per kill in chosen attack style (this is 4x the monsters HP)
- Hitpoints XP per kill (this is 1.33x the monsters HP, rounded to nearest whole number)
- Monsters max hit (with each combat style it uses)
- Slayer XP per kill (usually the same as it's HP level)
- Slayer requirement
- Location(s) (any locations the monster can be found)
- Monster Examine Screenshot - A screen shot of the lunar spell 'monster examine', remember to only cast on monsters that are full HP, or else the image cannot be used on a guide (spell displays monsters CURRENT hitpoints).
- Monster 'Habitat' Screenshot - This is simply a 500 x 100 Pixel screen shot of a place the monster can be found, try get a few of the monsters in the screen shot, it's best to capture this image from a distance so the monsters will fit into the 100 pixel height limit.
Example:
- Average Charms Per 100 Kills - This is just to give people a general idea of charm rates, an easy way to do this is to just kill 100 of a monster (labeling a box "kills" on any drop recorder is a good way to keep track of kills) and once you kill 100, note down how many charms you have of each type. Also if submitting charm rates please say how many of the monster you have killed as well as the total charms dropped.
- Other Info Box:
- Clue Scroll Level (either 1, 2 or 3. None if the monster doesn't drop clues)
- Multi-Combat (is the monster in multi-combat or single way combat)
- Poisonous (is the monster poisonous and if so, how much damage does the poison do)
- Aggressive (is the monster aggressive? remember, if you are over 2x the level of a monster it may become un-aggressive, but for the purposes of the guide, it will still count as being aggressive, keep this in mind if submitting this info)
- Drop Logs - You can submit a list if items dropped by a monster and the total no. killed to be used on a guide to give people a general idea of drop rates. The drop log format should be;
(item name) - (Amount of times item has been dropped)
| Good | Bad |
Coins - 6 Bronze Dagger - 1 Air Runes(10) - 1 | Coins Coins Coins Coins Bronze Dagger Coins Coins Air Runes(10)
|
Depending on various things such as your combat levels, slayer level, forum activity etc, some monsters may have certain requirements for you to submit drop logs. Only logs from trustworthy, experienced people will be accepted.
- Killing Guide/Notes - This is the part which requires the most work, detailed guides on good methods to kill monsters. When writing a guide, you need to try your best to use proper English, E.G. 'You should be fine wearing a rune plate' rather than 'u shud be fine wearin a rune pl8'. Try your best to make sure everything written is going to be understandable by people who don't know what they are doing, if using terms like "tanker" you will need to briefly explain what a tanker is in the guide. Your guide should try to provide good info for newbies and intermediate players, meaning try to go over some of the basics but also cover a few more advance techniques that experienced players could use to improve their monster killing.
- Example Inventory - This is simply a screen shot of a good inventory, when thinking of a good inventory, try to remember not everyone is rich, try to put mid leveled equipment into the screen shot that plenty of people can afford, or have very obvious alternatives (which should be mentioned in the next part). Try not to include too many quest items because people may not have done the same quests as you. Also, please submit screen shots of the small equipment screen, not the large one, as the small one fits better with the inventory.
- Equipment Notes - Here is where the Example inventory is explained, you do not have to explain each item, such as gloves or boots (unless there is anything significant about them) try to give a small explaination of each piece of relevent equipment in the screen shot, such as why it is good to use, if there is something else that could be used instead of it etc.
- Decoration screen shot - At the bottom of each page is a screen shot of a player killing the monster, try capture some sort of animation in your screen shot, don't just screenie you stood next to the monster with a damage splat on one of you. The image should be around 420 x 260, give or take a few pixels.
Note: For the images, please make sure you get them on high detail and full screen if possible. For the main monster image, turn lighting detail to low if you are in a dark area, keep it high for the other decoration images though. Anti-Aliasing doesn't matter too much, although if you have it, it would be an advantage to turn it on while taking screen shots if possible. Make sure you save your images as .PNG and upload them to a trusted image hosting website (such as Imageshack.us) before posting the image/link on the forums.
Submitting information for guides will get you a link in the credits at the bottom of each guide to your Youtube account (optional). In the future I may be creating a list of people (E.G. top ten) who have contributed the most information for the guides, these people will get a link on the homepage as the biggest contributers (around the area the flashing 'sosolid2k.co.uk' is at the moment) and also the top few have their videos featured on my channel and the homepage or videos section of this site.
So basically, those who submit good information that gets used for guides will recieve a bit of help in getting extra video views/subscribers (videos will only be featured if they are good videos, you will get a channel link regardless).
I'll be using a points system, where you get X amount of points for each type of info you submit. For example, submitting the combat level, hp, max hit etc will get you a fairly small amount of points, whereas submitting the killing guide/notes will get you quite a few. I'll be keeping the exact details to myself so people don't just concentrate on one type of submission to get the most points, and also offer bonus points for submitting multiple types of information for one monster.
Information you submit is not guarenteed to be used in a guide, so please don't be offended if you spend a long time on a guide and it isn't used. Your guide may also be switched for a better one, or edited slightly, but you will still be credited if your guide has in some way been used on a page.
Note: Some people who have html knowledge have been submitting fully coded pages ready to be uploaded, I'm sorry but I cannot accept any files like this. The monster guide pages are not html documents, they are done with PhP. A system has been created which only I can access to input everything needed for a page onto a database, the page then takes that information from the database and displays it in the appropriate places, this is much easier to update and much faster to create pages with. So please don't waste your time coding the pages, all I need is the information and I can update the pages quicker than I could if you code it then I have to search through a html document to check it's safe.
Reporting Bad Adverts
While I try as hard as I can to block most bad adverts on the site, some will still appear advertising things that should and will be blocked from showing eventually.
If you see an advert advertising any of the following please report it in the feedback section of the forums.
- Selling Runescape Gold (do not buy gold, there's a good chance you'll get ripped off, or/and your credit card details stolen, not to mention it ruins the fun of the game, as most people are aware after the wild, unbalanced trading etc being removed because of it)
- Advertising Runescape Hacks (There are no hacks for Runescape, these sites are usually scams to steal your account/other personal info (including credit card details), or they are just sites spammed with adverts that offer no useful content what-so-ever)
- Advertising Runescape Cursors (again, most likely just a site filled with adverts or dodgy downloads, if you see an advert, that means they've paid google to show that ad, does it make sense to pay google to let people download free cursors?)
- Any sexual content (these are blocked directly by google anyway, but if any slip through report it and i'll inform google)
- Other rule breaking ads - Basically just anything Runescape related that seems dodgy (E.G. an ad claiming you can become a moderator, or another claiming to be RS3 etc, they are all fake, just report them and i'll get them taken down asap)
Once blocked an advert may take several hours to stop appearing on the site, I can't do anything to speed this up, I just have to wait for google to filter it out, so you may still see the ad for some time after action has been taken to block it. Just quickly check that the ad hasn't already been reported before you report it.
If you see an advert and can't access the URL (website name E.G. www.example.com) then DO NOT click on it to find out, just take a screen shot of it and post that. These type of ads are actually pretty hard to block as it's often difficult to find them but I can try get them to appear through a tool google offers to help block them, although it doesn't always work.
